Having been to day 1 of the Fat Face do at Hayling yesterday I decided today it was time to get out. Arrived at Pagham around midday. It was overcast and looking a bit bleak but the wind looked o.k. so rigged the Rip and 4.7 in hope. Alan was out on his 5.0 and going well so it looked promising. And so it was, but very gusty. The first half hour or so was a mish-mash of bad technique, gustiness and survival sailing. Gradually it started to come together with better wind or better technique (probably a bit of both) and despite some lulls, some blubbing, a sore rib, dodgy elbows, the boom slipping, and a near brush with the mulberry harbour it was a day to be very happy with. Sailing the Rip is a doddle, just like the old Flow really. So, great session, flawed conditions, flawed performance, but a great sense of satisfaction. Half a star off for the gusty wind and rather flat water - 4.5 stars.
